Hairy Potter and the Goblet of Avocados

When I went to bed last night, there were two baskets on the kitchen counter. They contained eight beautiful, perfectly ripe avocados—plus some plum tomatoes, bananas and a huge, heavy mango. This morning, I woke up to a crime scene.

The avocados, tomatoes and mango had all been knocked out of the baskets, dragged across the counter and stabbed repeatedly with tiny, razor-sharp objects. Only the bananas had survived the assault unscathed.

Who was responsible for this heinous act of vandalism, you ask? I’m going to assume it was the damned cat that I found lying on his side a mere three feet from the carnage.

Mufasa (or MuFatso, as we often call him) is…unusual. While our other two cats are slim, healthy and fairly normal, Mufasa sleeps constantly, sheds profusely and is morbidly obese. He likes to fart in my lap, sneeze on my keyboard and will only throw up on carpeting.

And now, it seems, MuFatso has developed a fruit fetish. I think I’ve found a way to deter our Midnight Muncher, though. Tonight, I’m leaving out a basket of Thai green chile peppers.

Brenda: Loved the cat “saga”. As I read your report, I could not but help think of your Dad. When your Mom and Dad had a cat years ago the story is told about the cat leaving a “deposit” in your Dad’s toe rubbers (something all guys wore back in the olden days) that were easy to slip on for rainy days.
I can just picture yours Dad’s expression that morning as he was getting ready to head out the door. I would imagine that your situation that you found in the morning would be some what similar.

I’ve heard about my parents’ stealth pooping cat – that was funny (well, for ME it was). Apparently, their cat would use my dad’s shoes if it thought he hadn’t cleaned the litter box out quickly enough. So it was Revenge Pooping…

I am just warped enough to say leave your laptop open with the camera running and tape the night through; the reaction Thai green chili peppers might bring enough chuck to make up for the previous days carnage.

That’s tempting, Kim- I never even thought of that! It turns out Mufatso is rather cunning – he never even touched the Thai peppers…
